چکیده

During the process of designing smoothly curved forms, it is important to have methods available for the assessment of shape quality. The advent of computer graphics has made it possible to perform curve and surface interrogation without the construction of a physical model. Methods have relied on renderings, starting with wireframe representations, and increasing in sophistication to today’s highly realistic renderings. Also, interrogation techniques have been developed to exaggerate shape, making it easier to detect a curve’s or surface’s subtler aspects or flaws. The use of interrogation techniques is not limited to curve and surface design. They can be used to enhance the display of curve and surface data from many sources. The paper presents traditional and effective new methods for curve and surface interrogation. The implementation of these methods is simplified by exploiting mathematics packages and graphics library and hardware support.

Reflection curves—new computation and rendering techniques

Reflection curves on surfaces are important tools for free-form surface interrogation. They are essential for industrial 3D CAD/CAM systems and for rendering purposes. In this note, new approaches regarding the computation and rendering of reflection curves on surfaces are introduced. These approaches are designed to take the advantage of the graphics libraries of recent releases of commercial ...

Preprint: Clip Art Rendering of Smooth Isosurfaces Accepted Pending Revision for Ieee Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics 3rd Revision, Submitted January, 2007

Clip art is a simplified illustration form consisting of layered filled polygons or closed curves used to convey 3-D shape information in a 2-D vector graphics format. This paper focuses on the problem of direct conversion of smooth surfaces, ranging from the free-form shapes of art and design to the mathematical structures of geometry and topology, into a clip art form suitable for illustratio...

Investigating the Effects of Hardware Parameters on Power Consumptions in SPMV Algorithms on Graphics Processing Units (GPUs)

Although Sparse matrix-vector multiplication (SPMVs) algorithms are simple, they include important parts of Linear Algebra algorithms in Mathematics and Physics areas. As these algorithms can be run in parallel, Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) has been considered as one of the best candidates to run these algorithms. In the recent years, power consumption has been considered as one of the metr...

Parametric Surface Rendering

Parametric surface [Fari02] is a surface defined by a tensor-product of parametric curves, which are represented by parametric equations. As such surface comes with a well defined mathematical definition, it becomes one of the most common geometric tools for computer-aided geometric design and object modeling aids for many computer graphics applications. Typical examples of such surface include...

Template-based combinatorial enumeration of virtual compound libraries for lipids

A variety of software packages are available for the combinatorial enumeration of virtual libraries for small molecules, starting from specifications of core scaffolds with attachments points and lists of R-groups as SMILES or SD files. Although SD files include atomic coordinates for core scaffolds and R-groups, it is not possible to control 2-dimensional (2D) layout of the enumerated structur...
